Life Strategies -Plan of Action Program
When young people come to Youth Haven for help they make a commitment to become independent members of the community. Through our Life Strategies -Plan of Action Program, our youth, with the guidance of Youth Haven staff, determine their own goals and make realistic plans to bring those goals into fruition.

Employment
Employment is a key step toward independence. Youth Haven staff assist teens with daily job searches, resume preparation and interview skills. Practical knowledge is necessary to succeed in the workplace, including time management techniques, portfolio, employment barriers to name a few of the Life skills classes Youth Haven offers.

Education
Education is necessary and important if a teen is to become independent... At Youth Haven we encourage our youth to return to school. Some youth have had bad experiences with school. Teasing bullying, there are many reasons. We reassure teens there are alternatives as well as financial assistance available.

Life Skills
Life Skills classes are mandatory for residents of Youth Haven and provide valuable information to our youth. Classes include….anger, assertiveness, conflict, decision making, fear, financial issues, self esteem, self development, stress management, budgeting values to name a few.

After Care
One of our favorite programs is our aftercare program. Once a youth is ready to move into their new accommodations we are there to assist in any way possible. We want to make this move enjoyable and sustainable for our youth. We help with the move and provide a care package which would include food, personal hygiene products, towels, blankets…etc… A youth may return anytime for assistance with a care package. This help means the difference between paying rent and going hungry or buying food and becoming homeless again.

Counselling
Counselling is offered on a number of different levels. We have several counsellors on staff as well as several volunteer counsellors who avail themselves as needed. Counselling is available upon request. We offer emergency short term family counselling upon request to youth and their parents.

Referral Services
Our staff is very well versed on the services available to youth and their families in our community and beyond. We receive many phone calls each day not only from youth but also from parents who are desperate to find help for their child. Youth Haven staff is aware of the struggles and needs of families who are struggling to find help for their teen.

Our door is always open; a teen does not have to be staying at Youth Haven in order to access services.
