At Youth Haven, Barrie, we attempt
to reach out and meet the needs of youth in the following ways.
These ways, we believe, are foundational for the rescue, nurture and
growth of young people.
1. Immediacy - Kids in trouble
need help now. A bed, a shower, a meal and clothes.
2. Sanctuary - Many kids in
trouble need protection now! They need protection from themselves
and/or the terrors of the street.
3. Structure - Kids without
boundaries and structure flounder and are emotionally terrified. The
offering of limited structure with a minimum of rules relieves
anxiety and motivates growth.
4. Responsibility - Young people
need to learn they are responsible for the direction of their lives.
They must develop a positive plan to make a decision to move in that
direction.
5. Values Communication - "To
survive on the streets you do whatever you have to do." Instead we
try to teach that street values are wrong and destructive. Trust,
respect, and honesty bring growth.
