Background & Function
Goals and Objectives
|
 |
In every way possible, we endeavour,
on a daily basis, to live out those words of Jesus. We, intend to
treat each individual that comes to Youth Haven, with fairness,
kindness, respect and courtesy. We will attempt to create a safe,
warm and friendly environment to enhance their personal, physical
and spiritual growth.
Youth Haven attempts to work out its mission and philosophy with the
following goals and objectives. The three areas involved in our
mandate are a) short term stay, b) long term stay, and c) equipping.
Components involved in the above are as follows:
1)
Protection
2) Food
3) Shelter
4) Counseling
5) Life skills training
6) Liaison with community officials and agencies
7) Liaison with family and reconciliation where possible
The goals, previously stated, will be concretely expressed in the
following forms…
A. Short Term Stay
- Emergency shelter
- Continued stay is dependent on
a conceived plan with the decision to work at it
- Counseling available upon
request.
B. Long Term Stay
- In this case the young person
will carry out a plan of continuing education, working full time
or job search.
- Length of stay will be
determined by the young person's need and rate of progress.
C. Equipping
- The teaching of responsible
behavior through boundaries is a conscious part of our program.
Young people will be encouraged to develop life skills, with the
assistance of our Life Skills Coordinator, that may have been
neglected or non-existent thus far. This will involve proper
dress and hygiene important to job finding as well as everyday
life, conflict resolution, communication, budgeting, responsible
behaviour, anger management & other relevant topics. These and
other issues are discussed at great length by our
Youth/Community Advisor on Monday and Wednesday evenings from
7:00p.m to 9:00 p.m. Follow-up and action plans are also
implemented for each young person; which we believe creates a
sense of consistency, security and ownership in their personal
goal setting. Spiritual input will be an important part of the
values/communication process.
